Editor — Matt Bell

Matt learned how to manage money through the school of hard knocks. In 1989, the humbling experience of turning a $60,000 inheritance into $20,000 of debt led him to Christ and gave him a passion for learning how to manage money well, a subject he’s been studying ever since. Beginning in 1990, Matt has served as a Good $ense counselor and teacher, first at Willow Creek Community Church and now at Park Community Church in Chicago.

In 2001, Matt earned a Masters degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from DePaul University. His course work in sociology and business led to a thesis about the history of our consumer-oriented culture and its impact on our financial beliefs and behavior.

Professionally, Matt is a former award-winning journalist whose work has been heard on National Public Radio and the NBC Radio Network. More recently, he served as Senior Director of Media Relations for ACNielsen. In 2005, Matt left his corporate job to focus his full-time efforts on writing about and teaching a biblical, steward-based approach to money management.

Matt writes the Transforming Truths, News You Can Use, Spotlight, and Market Indicators sections of More Good $ense and serves as overall editor. His writing can also be seen on www.christianitytoday.com. Matt is available to speak at conferences and to teach workshops at churches, on retreats, as part of outreach events, and in corporate settings.
