Good $ense History

The Good $ense Ministry began at Willow Creek Community Church (WCCC) almost 16 years ago. It was started in response to a congregational need for pastoral help with personal financial struggles and to understand how to honor God with personal resource management.

Today, over 160 trained counselors assist members with resource issues and some 3,000 people annually attend Good $ense sponsored workshops, seminars and financial counseling sessions.

A testimony to WCCC's commitment to stewardship as a core value is evidenced by volunteer support of over 200 ministries, donations of cars and food to the needy, a consistently met church operating budget, no debt and a recently completed capital campaign that exceeded target by 60%.

Movement History

In the early 90's, churches began showing interest in the WCCC Good $ense Ministry and seeking assistance with their stewardship efforts.

In 1993, Good $ense Workshops began to be offered at WCCC based conferences and became a part of the Association's Regional Conferences in 1998.

As more and more churches were exposed to the ministry through WCA activity and the Movement Champion's work with national stewardship organizations, the requests for materials and ministry direction continued to be strong.

A survey by WCA to member churches revealed that one of the top requests was for resources that would help teach church members about biblical stewardship. In the year 2000, a full time effort to provide such materials in the form of a "ministry kit" began. These materials would enable a church to establish a year-round, church wide, integrated ministry of stewardship education and training.

By 2001, hundreds of church and ministry leaders were exposed to Good $ense seminars, workshops or counselor training and other churches have successfully started stewardship ministries utilizing the Good $ense process and pilot materials.
